Content management is not a big deal with this software.
This software is used in our company to manage content. It is amazing in hosting an uncountable number of portals. Its integration with Microsoft Office is very beneficial for us in making our work easy. It enables us to review and edit content. Its interface is easy and even the newly hired people can work on it and haven’t faced any kind of trouble.
- Content scheduling feature is very helpful and works amazingly well.
- Its mobile access is quick and makes things easy.
- It is a highly flexible tool and allows multiple customizations.
- There should be more updates and updates should come frequently.
- It has multiple bugs that disturb its working now and then.

- This feature is another strength as it allows editing.
- Its tech support barely has any idea about their product and [seem] useless.
Drupal is a highly expensive tool and is not offering anything extraordinary at a high price. If I keep its pricing in account then there should be some extraordinary features but unfortunately, there isn’t anything special about it; rather it was slow in its working. All these things actually forced us to move to Evoq that is just perfect in its working. Its working speed, interface, and UX are so simple that none of our team members find it tough to utilize. It has so many features like content scheduling and rich text edit. It allows easy editing of the text as well, and one can directly add text according to need.

Evoq Content met expectations.
We used Evoq for a client as it met all the requirements for their CMS. The sales and deployment process was drawn out due to the specifics of the client’s needs, but eventually it was installed and their site ran on it for several years.

Evoq is a deeper and more flexible product than other CMS solutions we’ve used. When trying to match a client to the CMS they need, Evoq was always in the conversation.
We use it for our own website, but we also host and use it to develop websites for our Clients. Our business model is a SaaS to the MLM / Network Marketing industry.
We write a lot of our own modules in C# and also buy a few from other developers.
Clients like to control the content and look and feel of their website, with DNN they have the ability to do so but then leave all of the heavy lifting to us to manage the Hardware, Programs, SQL Server and provide the necessary Reporting to them.
- If a Client needs to add a page for a special Event, they can do so without having to contact us.
- If a Client needs to add or change content, text or images at any time day or night they have the ability to do so without having to contact us.
- Our Clients do not have to know anything about HTML, ASP.Net, C#, SQL Server etc. If they know how to use a Word Processor then they can do most anything they need from a Content standpoint by just using their favorite Browser.
- If they need a special Module to do accomplish a certain task and we don't have one then we can provide one of hundreds developed by another developer from the DNN Store. Most modules are less than $100.
- Because DNN uses Skins that are a layer on top of the platform architecture they can have different skins for different pages or departments etc. On the DNN Store there are literally thousands of Responsive Skins available that range in price from $40 - $200.
- The platform is scalable and of course SQL Server is as well. So no matter how large a company gets DNN can handle the task ahead.
- I really only have 2 complaints and they are minor with DNN. First I think that DNN might need to do a better job of certifying Developers that sell modules. Create a standard if you will, much like Apple does with Apps, as not all developers are created equally and support on some modules is lacking with some developers.
- The second thing is I would like to see DNN keeping Developers more informed about upcoming changes to the platform and better co-ordination with developers on time schedules of new releases. Many times it seems the Developers have to play catch up when a new version is released and all of a sudden you may have some Modules that don't play nice with the changes.
- Neither of these are really a major problem as DNN and the community has evolved tremendously over the years and it is fairly easy to find solutions from the community.

- The positive impact is that DNN is fast to deploy and extremely flexibly so we can provide any thing our Clients need in a very short period of time especially with all of the great tools and resources that are available to you. It is definitely a RAD Tool.
- It helps us keep our cost down and our profits up in a tight economy and in a very competitive environment.
- With DNN I have not found a negative to our ROI nor to our business goals. It only enhances our Goals and keeps us profitable.
I have also used the Ektron CMS software platform before switching to DNN. It is a good product but it is much more costly than DNN and the product has a steeper learning curve and no where near the resources available like the community support and most importantly the thousands of available Skins and Modules, almost everything had to be custom written with the Ektron CMS platform. But in fairness to Ektron they do have a lot of features already available in their product.

We have Customer Support individuals with no knowledge of programming at all that can easily handle the day in and day out support that is necessary for our Clients. If they cannot answer a questions then we have the more technical individuals with Project Management and Programming skills to fill in any voids in their abilities. But overall you do not need to be a Gear Head or that Technical to support DNN.

We used Visual FoxPro and our own proprietary software language called Webc. It worked great for many years but the time to deploy was much longer and development also took longer because we did not have the same Tool Set that is available today with DNN and all of the Microsoft ASP.Net, tools and software that integrate with DNN.Shorter development time and faster deployment means you can be more competitive and still make a profit.

Product reputation by far, was our main deciding factor in transitioning to DNN.
We have been in this business for 28+ years so our Customer Service and the Quality of our Product to our Clients are the number one mission to our company. Since our reputation is so important to us we wanted partners that felt the same way and DNN gave us everything we needed to accomplish our goals and meet our Mission of providing the Best Quality Product and Customer Service to our Clients we possibly could.
I would not change anything, we tried Ektron CMS Platform and even though it is a good it just didn't meet all of our needs. We researched the other alternatives and everything we found just kept pointing to DNN as the overall leader in this market for features number of deployments, available Skins and Modules and the Customer Support. Just do a search on the internet for CMS software and read for yourself the answers are easy to come by.
I only wish we had done this sooner as it has been the best decision we have made in years.

Here was the step we used to implement DNN into our organization.
We installed locally and bought a 1 year Support Contract, we only did this to get up to speed as fast as possible. We were eager to get started and implement for our Clients, since it had all of the CMS features we were looking for.
Once we had a grip on installing the platform and the Modules then we built a test site.
Once we felt comfortable we built started creating our own Custom Modules. This is not necessary for the average company as there are plenty available that will meet their needs.
Next we built our first Clients website and that was it. Total from start to finish was about 3 months.
Change management was minimal
Since we were already well experienced programmers, database managers and project managers we only had to learn which Tools we wanted to use to implement the transitions. But it was easy for us. The average company that only needs to build a professional website and doesn't need to do custom programming like we have to do will not have a problem with the implementation of this software platform. If a company needs help then there are plenty of resources available.

- Learning to use the available resources and where to find them.
- Learning C# since we needed to write our own custom Modules, but since we were already experienced programmers in other languages this wa snot that big of a deal.

We did at first when we made the transition from our old software development platform and tools to DNN. But once we felt comfortable with the DNN Platform and we got familiar with the Development Tools and found that the Development Community was so helpful we did not feel that it was necessary any longer.
After about 3-4 months we felt like we had a really good grip on how to use and develop with the product.
When we first moved over to DNN, about 5 years ago, we used their paid support with an 800 # and the help and expertise was excellent. If we had a dumb question we would pick up the phone and call, we never sat there on hold waiting. They were quick to respond with the correct answers we needed.
Their Sales team is also very helpful on selecting the correct version for your needs which in a way is also a Customer Service related issue.
- Adding Pages and Content are a breeze for even the novice as long as they know how to use a Browser and a Word Processor.
- Creating internal or external Links from images or text is extremely easy.
- Creating a professional looking website is a no brainer.
- Adding Forms that store data to a database is not for the novice but with the right Module and a little help can be done.
- SEO is a little difficult if you do not use the proper available Modules and know what you are doing. But many people know how to do it correctly so you can get there with the right tools and people.
- CSS and layout you may need a little help from someone that understand s CSS to achieve a knockout professional looking site but there are plenty of people and tools available for this as well.

Excellent, most Skins you buy today are Responsive and many use Bootstrap 3.0 so you really don't have to know a lot about what you are doing if you buy the right Skin in the first place. DNN also gives you Tools to accomplish Redirection and Device Detection so you have what you need to create the total Mobile solution.

DNN is being used in several areas. We are using it at my current employer as our externally-facing website, for clients as their CMS, and also for a few personal websites and blog platforms. At former employers, we used it primarily as our code base for custom intranet CMS solutions with integration into the Microsoft infrastructure.
- DNN is a feature-rich, open-source project with a flexible license. This let us use it without licensing costs for custom solutions or as-is with no custom code just plug-in modules.
- DNN is written in Microsoft .NET C#. This allows our developers and our customers to use their existing skill set to install and maintain the solution.
- DNN is made for Windows platform, allowing us and our customers to deploy solutions to existing Windows servers or in some cases hosted platforms.
- DNN integrates with Windows authentication allowing us to deploy intranet solutions and use single sign-on for improved user experience and security.
- DNN is developed with Microsoft Visual Studio, which is great if your developers already know and use it, but switching to it can be expensive in terms of licensing (for paid versions) and training costs.
- DNN module creation is powerful for custom solutions but more complex, time consuming, and error prone than some other open-source solutions based on open-source scripting languages that can be edited without needing to be compiled.
- DNN has a rich 3rd-party ecosystem of modules and themes but it pales in comparison to a CMS such as WordPress.
- DNN's foundation on Microsoft technologies is a strength if you need it but a potential limitation if your organization is not entrenched in the Microsoft ecosystem. For example, a quick search on some freelancer sites shows that WordPress developers outnumber DNN developers 10 to 1.
- DNN has allowed us to decrease our development costs by using a solid CMS framework instead of having to develop one from scratch.
- Using DNN has allowed us to leverage our development team's expertise with Microsoft technologies.
- DNN allows us to use existing Windows infrastructure to deploy solutions without having to install and manage 3rd-party frameworks or add-ons.
- DNN gives us fewer choices in themes, plug-ins, and contractors with specialized skills compared to some of the more popular CMS and blogging platforms. For example, we've had more luck finding graphic designers who can create custom WordPress themes than DNN skins.
DNN and WordPress share many similarities and can be used for the most part interchangeably when the goal is to create a simple hosted website. However, in other cases the requirements dictate a very clear choice. If your organization is invested in the Microsoft ecosystem in terms of software and employee expertise then DNN is a superior choice. However if you will be relying on contractors for installation, development, and maintenance then WordPress' popularity means you will have more options.

Making Content Management Simple
We host, setup, design and configure DotNetNuke web sites for various customers. If customers come to us wanting a CMS, we recommend DNN. We have had very positive from most of our clients. Clients have been able to manage their own website content without being bound to software such as Dreamweaver or Contribute.
- DotNetNuke makes it easy to edit content on a website. Clients can log in to the site, click on the "Edit Page" button in a convenient menu at the top of the page and then edit specific sections (or modules) on a page. They have the ability to upload images and other documents (PDF, Word, etc) and also can add links. The HTML editor provides options to paste from word and also the ability to edit the HTML directly for the more tech-savvy users.
- DotNetNuke makes it very easy to allow users to sign up as members on a website and also makes managing those users via site Administrators easy. It is also very easy to set up other ways for users to log in (via Facebook, Twitter, Google, etc).
- DotNetNuke is extremely extensible. There is an app store where you can find many free or low-cost modules that can be installed to utilize applications such as event calendars, news, blogs, and many other web application types. It is also quite easy to build your own custom modules if you have a little development experience.
- DotNetNuke is extremely easy to get started. There is a simple install screen that comes up the first time you visit your site that will allow a site up and running in seconds.
- Overall DNN is a great platform, but there is room for improvement. They could provide more tutorials and help for developers and designers to integrate with DNN. It is very easy to build basic skins and modules but if you need to do more advanced things, there really is no help for this at all. You pretty much have to just learn by trial and error.
- Some of the design standards built in to DNN are inconsistent and difficult to work with. Some core DNN modules use 1 way of styling the module while other modules use different styles. HTML tables are not properly used and overall there are times you have to jump through hoops to make some DNN components look the way you want.
- While there are a lot of apps on the DNN store, there is virtually no developer support. DNN developers seem to keep their secrets, well, secret. There are a large amount of WordPress tutorials out there, but not a lot (of free) DNN tutorials.
- DNN have given us the ability to have basic sites for clients up and running in a very short time. This makes the client happy.
- DNN has taken the trivial, simple tasks of changing text on a page or an image on a page and put it into the hands of the client. They do not have to pay us to do it and that also frees up more time for us to spend on development.
I have not used any other official .Net based CMS solutions other than DNN. I have used WordPress, which is a very good blogging application. But while they are making strides to be more of a CMS, I believe DNN is a better overall solution because of the ability to build custom applications on top of them.
